1011. Steamcon

First held on October 23-25, 2009 in Seattle (Sea-Tac), Washington, USA, and then every year since, Steamcon has become the longest continual-running steampunk convention in the world. Preceeded by SalonCon (2006-2008, Somerset New Jersey, USA) and Steam Powered (2008, Sunnyvale, California, USA), Steamcon has also grown to be one of the largest, if not the largest, steampunk convention.

Steamcon has developed a reputation for bringing in key authors, artists, and musicians as guests and performers. The convention has hosted the three authors recognized as writing modern steampunk stories: Tim Powers (2009), James Blaylock (2010), and the man who coined the term "steampunk", K.W. Jeter (2011).

After twenty-five years of convention-going, organizers Diana Vick and Marin Armstrong sought to hold a convention solely focused on steampunk in the Pacific Northwest. Pulling together an all-volunteer team, they have created an annual event filled with discussion panels, history, fashion, music, and art.
