1295. The Hanged Man

Barbara Moore says of this card in the Steampunk Tarot:
Creating the images, writing out what I wanted on each card, was so much fun. Sometimes I think I focused too much on amusing myself and thinking I was so clever. This is one of those images. Traditionally, the Hanged Man hangs from a tree and has a halo around his head (like those pictures of Christ or the Saints) to represent enlightenment gained through sacrifice. Here, the Hanged Man hangs from scaffolding and is bound by vines (playing with the idea of the opposing forces of nature and machine, a very apt Steampunk theme). He is in front of a church and the stained glass window becomes his halo.
